The Story Behind the Song: A 40 year Duet

The music industry is about the next “big thing” but for Juliet Harris, the most meaningful projects are about the things that lasts. The upcoming release of “How Do You Keep The Music Playing” (May 20) and the full album “A Song For You” (June 20)are the latest chapters in a creative partnership that began decades ago in the UK.

Juliet first met producer and musician Stephen Darrell Smith after signing a recording contract with a UK music publishing company. Under Steve’s direction, Juliet cut her teeth on everything from original tracks to local radio commercials. Though Juliet’s career later took her across the globe and the two lost touch, the musical foundation they built remained.

The spark for return to the studio came from Juliet’s husband. After hearing her sing around their home, he gave her the ultimate encouragement: “You really must do something about this.”

When the time came to record, there was only one person Juliet wanted to call. Steven didn’t just step back into the producer’s role, he wrote and produced the title track “After All This Time” on her first album, in his Room With A View Studio, UK. Today the collaboration continues to flourish across the Atlantic. From the soulful “With You I’m Born Again” to the new music-themed collection, Steve’s brilliant musicianship makes it, as Juliet says, “so easy to sing again.”
